Cover of Knight is a puzzle designed by Néstor Romeral Andrés and implemented by Garage Imagina. It is a generalization of the Chess Covering Problem that adds ‘holes’ to the board.
Place pieces on the board so that all the available squares -even those occupied by your own pieces- are under attack and the total value of the pieces used is the lowest possible. Records are updated automatically.
There are two modes of play:
- Basic: You can use each piece as many times as you want and with no placement restrictions.
- Advanced: You can only use the 16 pieces of a standard Chess set, pawns can’t be placed on the first and last row, one bishop per square colour.

how to play
Place pieces on the board so that all the available squares -even those occupied by your own pieces- are under attack and the total value of the pieces used is the lowest possible.
There are two modes of play: Basic and Advanced. In the Basic Mode you can use each piece as many times as you want and with no placement restrictions. In the Advanced Mode you can only use the 16 pieces of a standard Chess set, pawns can’t be placed on the first and last row, and there can be only one bishop per square colour.
At the top of the screen you can see the record holder. At the bottom you will have the information about the attacked and unattacked squares, as well as your score, your personal best and the world record (The lower, the better).
Drag pieces onto the board to place them and drag them outside to remove them. You can see the value of each piece underneath. Tap on the buttons below to change the color of the pieces and the board squares, clear the board, save and recover a position, recover your personal best position and exit.
